Bristol straw eco-homes nearly ready

The worlds first straw bale eco-homes to be sold on the open market are nearing completion. We are delighted that the brick clad, straw bale houses ModCell have been involved with are nearly finished. The new owners will be moving in shortly.

The houses come complete with 2.2kw of PV (Photo Voltaic), Airsource heat pump, MVHR system (Mechanical Ventilation Heat Recovery), Rain Water Harvesting storage tanks, CSB (Compressed Straw Board) internal lining replacing plasterboard, low energy colour corrected bulbs through out, built in USB charging socket in each room.

The photos above show some of these systems. image 3 shows the 'Honesty window'. Each home has one of these in the livingroom. It is a cut away section showing the straw in the walls as well as Compressed Straw Board being used instead of plasterboard.

There are seven houses in total. 2x two bedrooms and 5 x 3-4 bedroom homes. Each house has full height timber fences as well a shed to store bikes and other household goods.

The rear garden has been turfed and has a timber deck as standard. Some of the units have chosen to have oak flooring fitted in the open plan ground floor.

Energy demands have been kept to a miniumum. All homes come with 'A+ or A++' appliances. The Washing machine, toilets and garden will all draw their water needs from the rainwater harvesting tank.

We are happy to show people/companies around the houses. Please contact us to arrange.

The houses are situated in St Bernard's Road, Shirehampton, Bristol.

ModCell are involved in a range of other housing projects in the South West and beyond. ModCell are happy to work with housing developers, self builders, Local Authorities, Housing associations etc. Please contact us to find out more.
