ModCell® panels match Passivhaus standard at Glenfrome School

ModCell® were onsite in August 2013 installing the new ModCell® Core + panels at the Glenfrome Primary School in Bristol. We built a new classroom attached to the existing buildings.

This is the first school to use the new ModCell® Core + panels. The Core + panels match or exceed the Passivhaus standards both for u-values and for airtightness. The u-value of the panels are 0.114, whilst the airtightness achieved through the panels is less than 1.0m3/hr/m2. The Core + panels offers schools and other building types an affordable solution to match the demanding Passivhaus standard.

The ModCell® Core + used on the Glenfrome building consists of sheathing board plus battens on the internal face, 400mm of straw insulation, breather boardand 40mm of wood fibre insulation/render carrier and 8mm of breathable render on the external face. The school has elected to use two different colours of render to add to the visual impact of the building.

in addition to the ModCell® Core + panels for the external walls ModCell® are are installing ModCell® straw bale roof cassettes. The ModCell® walls and ModCell® roof cassetts have been installed in 1 and a half days. The building is due to have the breathable render applied in the coming days.

ModCell® offers a rapid install whilst also offering outstanding levels of insulation and airtightness. The ModCell® Core and Core + system offers clients and designers the flexibility to offer a large range external finishes without having to compromise on environmental benefits or design.
