Visualising Low Energy Low Carbon Design

Thermal imaging of low energy design can demonstrate for real whether a building is leaking heat or not. These three buildings built using ModCell Straw Technology and designed by White Design show just how efficient you can get. The Nucleus Centre at Hayesfield Girls School in Bath, LILAC CoHousing project in Leeds and BaleHaus at Bath, a research prototype house at the University of Bath.

Thermal imaging uses the infrared spectrum to show heat rather than visible light. Blue is cold yellow is hot. At Hayesfield and LILAC you can see how bright the background buildings are glowing compared to the buildings built with ModCell. Each picture shows the excellent thermal properties of building with straw bales as insulation. This combination of thermal performance allied with excellent airtightness, means that heating is minimised, costs reduced and carbon emissions avoided.
