Technology Strategy Board release ModCell® video

The video tells of the research and development that ModCell® has been able to undertake with funding support from the TSB.

ModCell® has benefited from three separate rounds R&D support. The first was to enable R&D on the ModCell® panel itself. This included fire testing, structural testing, acoustic and thermal performance testing.

The second round of R&D was to help build and test the BaleHaus® at Bath. This was to test the BaleHaus® suitability as a housing solution. Suffice to say the test results were outsatnding and ModCell® has recently completed 20 housing units in Leeds as part of the LILAC Co-Housing development.

The latest round of R&D funding is to develop the ModCell® 'Flying Factory' methodology of localised, near site manufacturing for a wider industry audience to adopt. The research project, entitled 'Modern Flying Factories' (MFF), is being researched by a number of industry partners. This team is made up of Skanska, the University of Reading, South West Manufacturing Advisory Service (SWMAS) and ModCell®

The reserch is already showing early signs of success. This is illustrated at the Glenfrome Primary School in Bristol. This is the first building to be built using lessons learnt from the MFF research.
