ModCell on The One Show

ModCell and the new homes built in Bristol were featured on tonight's edition (26th Feb 2015) of The One Show.

Presenter, Alex Riley, visited the seven new homes being built in Shirehampton, Bristol. He had a tour of the homes and was told of the excellent insulation the panels provide, resulting in very low fuel bills for the occupiers. He was surprised just how quickly the building were built.

After his tour of the houses he headed off with the ModCell team to the University of Bath. Once there Alex took part in a couple of, not so, scientific experiments. This included driving a car over some compressed straw boards, these are used instead of plasterboard as internal finishes. They are fitted in front of the ModCell panels and as internal room partitions. The car test showed just how strong they as well as being excellent for acoustic noise reduction.

The second test was to show just how fire resistant straw can be. A blow torch was held on the face of the straw board. A member of the ModCell team held his hand on the other side of the straw board, This was to show how confident he was about the straw board resisting fire. Alex was impressed by the outcome. Hopefully the One Show viewers were equally impressed.

These Bristol homes are, we believe, the first homes built using straw available for sale on the open market. This means anyone can buy one. There are two 2 bedroom homes and five three bedroom homes up for sale.

You can register your interest in them at the dedicated web site (Click here to register interest). There is also an open day to view the, as yet unfinished houses, on Saturday the 14th of March from 10:00 - 4:00. Haart of Bristol are marketing the homes. They can be contacted on 01179 822220 or via shirehampton@haart.co.uk
